War movie research

The next convention of media I will be doing is war movies. War movies were never really in the mainstream of cinema other than a few specific examples. Though I still think it's a very cool genre. The Genre normally uses a lot of close up and mid shots which the occasional setting shot if they need to introduce a battlefield or barracks. They do this to make it feel uncomfortable and close. The sound for these kinds of movies normally involves diegetic sound letting the ambience of the war field take over. For integral moments they then normally use a slow piano track or an upbeat inspiration track to convey emotion. The editing of this genre is normally letting shots linger for a long time using diegetic lighting and only ever cutting when necessary to move the plot forward, normally using jump cuts. Some good films in this genre are 12 strong, Company of Heroes and Lord of war. The benefits of using this genre are that it is quite easy to film using mostly close up and mid shots. It is easy to do since the color palette is very grainy and you don't need diegetic lighting or sound. The detriment is the guns. Guns are a very touchy topic in America and showing them to cambridge might be a problem. Additionally war movies use other bad iconography. Alot to show the grittiness of war use cigarettes or alcohol. They use it to convey the hopelessness these soldiers feel.
